I live in CO. I have already been disappointed several times by people that scammed us. My mom is now taking charge of my modeling. I really want to do this but do not know if I have what it takes to do modeling. There are no agencies close to were I live. We are thinking of going to NY over spring break. Is that a good idea or should we just save the money a keep sending out our pictures to agencies?

Hey Christina. I'm a bit confused as to what type of model I would be. I'm only 5'7 and I'm 23 years old. With that in mind could you please take a look at my pictures and tell me what type of modeling you think I would be good for? I would think commercial...but even then, I'm not even sure what that means! Is a commercial model someone who you can find in a catalog? Maybe someone who ends up in magazines in an ad for toothpaste? Also, I'm becoming a little discouraged. I've visited the websites of many top agencies. Ford, Elite, Wilhelmina etc. and on a LOT of their websites it basically states you need to be AT LEAST 5'8. And on some of them, there seems to be a cutoff in age. I was looking at the height requirements of one website and it said "ages 13-15 5'7. ages 16-21 5'8" They don't even list my age...as in if you're older than 21, don't bother contacting us. Am I too old to START modeling?

Hi Cristina! This website is so wonderful and it has been a great resource for me. I have been modeling for 3 years, but I have yet to get my foot in the door. I have been unable to find representation and I do not have anything published. I recently updated my entire portfolio because I cut my hair and I discovered my niche: Fitness and Lingerie modeling. I've been staying very positive. I submit, submit and submit, send out mailers that include my comp card, but haven't heard anything back. I'm not what you'd call a beginner, but I do not have a resume. I need some advice. Please help me, Cristina!

HI Cristina, I"m contacting agencies and they seem interested but want me to have more working experience but I can't get more experience without the agencies. I'm sure other new models have this problem too. Any suggestions? I'm having some tfp's done to get more pictures. Thanks for your advice.

Hi cristina, I went to a fashion show recently and a scout asked me to apply for a audition called ELITE Model Look 2009 from Japan .The scout contacted the president of ELITE and told them about me. A few days later the ELITE president called my cell phone and asked me to come to apply were they will have in Okinawa in July 4th. My age and height dose not fit the requirement but they still want me see me. Is there any thing i need to prepare for this audition.

Hi my name is Alexandra i am black and I am currently in the process of transitioning my hair from processed to completely natural. Will my natural hair hinder me when trying to find agencies? Do i have to conform and straighten my hair or will leaving it natural make me unique? I have a second question- if i sign with a agency and they want me to straighten my hair should i do it or should i shop for another agency?

Hi Cristina, what's your impression of the state of the modeling market right now? I keep reading about agencies filing for bankruptcy and/or going out of business, Irene Marie being one of the more notable recently. After at least getting some casting calls early on, I have heard almost nothing recently from any of my agencies. How does someone like you who makes a living at this survive these down times?

Hi Christina. I emailed several months ago with questions about maternity modeling. Since I live in Pittsburgh, you had suggested trying agencies in the Philadelphia area. I was wondering if you could point me to any in particular that you know of there. I submitted pictures to Expecting Models in NYC online, but have yet to hear back from them. I would like to submit to more agencies but I'm not seeing any in my research that deal with pregnant models. Is Expecting Models the only big agency with a corner on the market? By the way, I happened to come across an ad you did for Laura Ashley in the latest edition of Victoria magazine-natural beauty-loved it! Thanks so much! -Kristi

HI CRISTINA!!! Just got the new Vogue for June, and was about to sit down and read it when the back cover caught my eye. GREAT ad for CHANEL... but really firming and lifting cream for someone that looks to be around 16??? Do you really think that advertisers will eventually wake up to the fact that older women that might actually use the product are the ones they should be modeling for it? I would hope they would realize..the women they are targeting keenly aware that the model is that young

Hi Christina. I just posted a question asking you what kind of modeling I would be good for and I said I thought commercial. However, I forgot to ask if you could let me know the specific agencies I should be contacting depending on what type of modeling I should be doing. I know that Elite is out of the question because they are strictly high fashion. Thanks and sorry for so many questions!

Hi Cristina! I am new to explore modeling, and recently noticed the "featured models" on each separate online casting contest. What does featured mean, and how would a model become one of these VIP entrants? I just wondered if they paid to become premium members, or if it was random? Thanks so much!! Xoxo Laura

Hey, Cristina. I'm contemplating signing with an agency within the next few weeks, and I know that I need to start putting together a comp card. I don't have much to work with, but I was wondering which ones you thought were good. I definitely need to get some more shots with variety, though!

Hi Cristina - this is not really a question, but I just wanted to say thanks for all your help with my comp card and your advice. I recently signed with Ford Modeling Agency and have started working with Kohl's and K-Mart. Your website is great and very helpful in answering questions and giving advice. I am looking forward to a career in modeling.

Hi Cristina. First, I want to thank you for launching this site. It's informative and enjoyable to use. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and I was signed to a reputable agency several years ago. However, I never really got started working due to several life changing events that happened within my family. So, I put the idea of modeling and acting aside. I really want to get back into my agency and start working, however, my husband and I recently found out we were pregnant. Life happens while your making plans! Besides NYC, are there any other agencies that represent pregnant models/actors in the Northeast? Also, how do you manage this line of work with a family? Is it manageable with the traveling and all? I really have a passion to pursue this dream. Any words of wisdom?

Hi Cristina, My name is Nikeia and I want to be a model for print and things of that nature I've been to cast and calls for places like John Robert Powers and they've said I'm too small for runway I have the look not the height so I should get interested in print modeling. I don't have a portfolio yet. My question is should I go with an amature photographer who is likely to either charge less or do it for free or pay the money and go with a more "seasoned" photographer?

I am in my late 30's and my portfolio is my first photo shoot. Just wandering your thoughts on my pictures and if you think I should explore modeling. If so, what area of modeling should I concentrate on. Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Hi Cristina, I went to my first casting today. This agency sent me on a casting in NYC today and I wasn't given any direction or guidelines so I was unprepared. The agency said they weren't sure what I would be modeling. It turned out that I had to change into swimwear. I left the casting because I was unprepared to get into swimwear and I didn't have a book. Is it possible for me to make my own book? If so, how would I do that. What would you suggest for my next casting?
