I am new to the modeling world and in my 30's. My portfolio contains my first shoot. Can you give me your thoughts and critiques. I am thinking about body part modeling, stock photos, and fitness modeling. Any advice or direction would be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Alex

Agencies
Ask Cristina anything and everything about modeling agencies
topic:
Hi Cristina!!! Model Scout in Orlando contacted us a few days ago and they want to meet with my sister and I about a possible representation. He said that our look is in demand right now for their agency.I am willing to fly down there for the meeting but the dates for the meeting are bad days for us because of family committments. I emailed him and asked if there are any other days we can meet. Should I have done that? Do you think they will be willing to schedule us for another meeting?

Test Shooting
topic:
Hey Christina, I was going to do a shoot this up coming spring and it would be my first shoot ever. He is a good photographer (I know someone he's worked with and she's pretty well known now) and he's worked with some big names but I saw that you said for your first shoot you wouldn't suggest spending more than 500. His rates are high. It's 4 hours of unlimited shooting for $750 or 8 hours of unlimited shooting for $1200. Plus the cost of a makeup and hair artist if I choose to have one. Would you say I shouldn't go through with it? And if not, do you know a good photographer and makeup artist in the NYC area? Thanks!

Scams!!!
topic:
I was scouted by an agency the other week on the street and told to drop by during open hours. Everyone was really nice, there was no pushiness at all, but I am so petrified by scams that I am unsure whether or not they are legit. They said that while it was not necessary to take the workshop, they highly reccomend it since runway modeling is a craft and one needs to learn the techniques and practice their crafts, as you do in other art forms. They also said that I did not need to sign a contract- does this sound legit? They also do not have a website because most of their models are minors and they are uncomfortable with having their pictures all over the net, and that designers already know how to contact them. They say that they would rather lose out on some business rather than risk the safety of their models, and have been in the business 20 years. The runway workshop includes training and photographs and costs 980 which can be paid in installments. They are called Riviera Models

40 plus Modeling
topic:
Christina, I'm 45 and hear that work for women my age is at a high demand. A great deal of the television commercials I see are older people. I am represented by a agency here in Cincinnati - New View Management, but am getting very few castings. Would you recommend that I find a new agency or stay with New View? I really want more work! If you think I should find another agency, an you suggest one that focuses on older people my age? I'm interested in commercials, print work and runway. Thanks, Michelle
