Booking Modeling Jobs on your Own?!
Summary:
Can I Book Modeling Jobs on my Own!?
Can you book modeling jobs on your own without a modeling agency? The answer to this question is “Yes” and “No”. If it is your dream to be a Victoria Secret model or star in a national advertisement for The Gap- the answer is “No”. Unfortunately these companies tend to use modeling agencies to find their models. They do not generally take submissions directly. Your best bet is to find representation from a modeling agency then ask your booker to submit your photo to the companies you are interested in. If they feel you are what they might be looking for- they will. If you are really industrious, you can Google the company online and look for the name of their Art Director and then mail and/ or e-mail them your photo. Just please do not get your feelings hurt if you do not hear from them…
Now if you want to work for a small boutique, local designer, hair salon, smaller clothing company, etc. in your area- the answer is “YES!”. If you are just looking to get some experience and would like to get some pictures in your book or a highly coveted “Tear Sheet”- you can and should contact them directly and tell them you are a model and would be willing to offer your services. Many times these smaller companies cannot afford to go to a modeling agency, so they use friends or family members for their advertisements, so I am sure they would welcome your submission.
If anyone has any great tear sheets they can share from getting a job like this- I would love to see it!
Here is one of mine :)
