Even if you are already a professional model you can still have issues with blemishes. Luckily we have photo retouching to help with this matter but you still need to see a Dermatologist to get on a regimen to clear your skin up as best as you can. The occasional breakout can happen to anyone but if it is a constant problem your agency may have a problem with sending you to their clients.

If you are still in braces, you may want to wait until they come off before you forge into a modeling career. Braces are harder to retouch and clients will most likely not want to deal with a task that difficult.

If you really just want to start getting experience- you can take your test photos with a closed mouth smile, this way you can still use them when your braces come off.

You may also want to try the invisible braces made by Invisalign. They can be removed for short periods of time.

You can also contact agencies in your area and just tell them you have braces. You never know- they may have a client looking for someone just like you :)

Well, blemishes are easy, because these days we have retouching, and retouching takes care of all of those things. There is a myriad of things that retouching can do. So, when you girls look at those magazines, do not think that all those girls look like they appear. When you look at all of my pictures, you can see that I do not always look like my photos, because there is a lot of retouching involved and clients want to make the pictures look perfect. I have had clients take my head off one shot and attach it to another shot because they liked my expression in one picture but the pose in another. I have been shot in front of a green screen or a white background and then all of a sudden I am on the beach. So, there are so many things that they can do with retouching and Photoshop, which will just blow your mind. So, do not look at the magazines and think, that is how people look, they just do not. Nobody looks that way; nobody is as perfect as what they show in the magazines. That is an unrealistic expectation.

If you have braces, I am sure they can retouch them out, but that would be a large retouching job, so I do not know if they would hire someone with braces if they wanted someone without braces. I would just wait; you could still take photos and smile with your mouth shut. But if you have like a year left to go with your braces, maybe wait a year. If you have two years left to go and you really want to start modeling- then go ahead and get some pictures done and just keep your mouth closed but take some with a big wide smile, because there might be a client that needs a model with braces. Just tell your agency you have braces and as soon as you get those braces off, update your pictures.
